Welcome to Candy and Carl Moulton's New England Shire Centre, home of the world's largest breed of horses! We are located in scenic Ocala, in the heart of Florida's horse country. The New England Shire Centre is a private, gated farm situated on 200 beautifully manicured acres in the heart of Ocala. Marion County was voted "Horse Capital of the World!". The farm is located approximately 10 miles West of I-75, just off of Hwy 40. The New England Shire Centre has been importing and breeding English Shires since 1984 and was already a well established operation when it moved to Florida in 1991. We have an outstanding line of breeding stock available, including 15 brood mares and three stallions. Many of our horses were imported from British breeders, who are known worldwide for producing massive draftiness, a strong work ethic, unflappable temperament and a much sought-after "foot, feather, joint" quality and action. After hitching geldings for twenty five years, we decided in the mid 1990's to start breeding Shires. Our hitch geldings had been imported from many different horseman from all parts of England but when it came to selecting the mares and stallions, there was only one place to go. Paul and Walt Bedford, from South Yorkshire, have no equal when it comes to locating, selecting, breeding and showing the finest quality Shire horses in the world. The most recent results from the Shire Horse Society Spring Show newsletter says it all. The Bedford Brothers have helped us import quality mares that have been "sired" by Super Premium, and Premium Stallions: · Snelson Magnus · Ithersay Courage · Tryofarth Cymro · Red Brae Duke · Clarich Gay Aristocrat · Stanley House Aristocrat · Isles Field Danny Boy After trying for several years to purchase the Super Premium Stallion Red Brae Duke, Nigel Blakely finally relented in 2000. This horse has the head set, scope of shoulder, neck, and action to compete with any of the top North American hitch geldings of any breed. Duke has been adding his quality and athleticism to the breeding and in hand quality of our mares to produce truly superior foals. We had not planned on adding a second stallion so soon, but in 2002 the Bedford Brothers found a jewel. Broadheath Baron is a 18.2 hand son of Snelson Magnus. He has the same massive front end, a much better quality hind end, and his neck looks a foot longer. The temptation to geld this horse and hitch him was tremendous, but for the good of the breed, Baron has been kept a stallion and is producing TOP QUALITY foals. We started by breeding each of these stallions to our Foundation Mares. When the RED BRAE DUKE offspring reached breeding age they were evaluated and most were bred to Broadheath Baron. The same system was used for Baron's fillies. The results have been truly remarkable! both stallions are producing a horse that has the quality of each stallion plus the traditional Shire mare breed standards. If anyone id looking for a modern athletic Shire that can compete with any breed in any discipline, we are breeding it! Over the past twenty years, the Bedford Brothers have taught us the true value of the Shires foot, joint, leg and feather. We believe that we at New England Shire Centre have the combination to put the top on the horse. For information about breeding, please call (352) 873-3005 or click below to contact us vi a email. |
